CENTRAL Philippine University’s (CPU) secondary girls volleyball team celebrated a double victory after snatching the 2017 Isuzu 17-Under Girls Volleyball League and the 12th Victor C. Plagata Cup crowns against Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS) over the weekend.
Fresh from winning the Plagata Cup in Bingawan last May 12, the Centralian spikers also blasted Tay Tung in the Isuzu Cup in three straight sets, 25-15, 25-16, 25-18, at the Ateneo de Iloilo (AdI) covered gym on May 14.
Finals MVP Chrisann Susbilla led the Golden Lions in beating Tay Tung in two separate leagues.
Before reaching the finals, CPU also shattered St. John Institue, 25-19, 25-12, in the semis and Ramon Avanceña National High School (RANHS), 25-15, 25-14, in the quarterfinals.
On the other hand, volleybelles from Iloilo City National High School (ICNHS) pounded St. John Institute (Hua Ming) of Bacolod City, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23 to settle for third place.
Angel Canino (SJI) was hailed as Best Spiker while Nohlin Jundana (Tay Tung) and Euna Gene Piosca (CPU) received the Best Server and Best Setter awards, respectively.
Pearl An Denura of CPU is the Best Libero while Novelyn Gerona of ICNHS is the Best Blocker.
Organized by sportsman Ruding Villaruz, the week-long volleyball tournament was supported by the Iloilo City Government, Iloilo Isuzu Corp. and Akari Philippines.
