Children’s games attract budding athletes

THE Iloilo City Government, through City Sports Division in partnership with Philippines Sports Commission, hosted the 2018 Children’s Games at La Paz Plaza on Feb. 10-11.

Mayor Jose Espinosa III led the two-day sports endeavor participated by 910 children aged 9 to 12 years old from seven districts.

The games included basketball, volleyball, tennis, badminton, arnis, taekwondo, palo sebo, and kadang-kadang.

Each participant was given two shirts, a medal, balloon, and a loot bag during the closing ceremony.

“When they are into sports, they will be able to overcome stress. We expect more participants to join us next time,” said City Sports Division Officer-in-Charge Moises Salomon.

Salomon added that they are planning to hold more sports programs for children soon to promote sports as one of the means of physical development and character-building. (Thessalonia Ordales/Iloilo City PIO)
