CERES Negros FC claimed the back-to-back championship title in the 2018 Philippines Football League (PFL) at the expense of Laguna Stallion FC, 4-1, in Panaad Park and Stadium, Aug. 25.
The “Man of the Match,” Bienvenido Marañon led the Busmen to victory with two goals.
Martin Steuble and Blake Powell scored one goal each for Negros in the 49th and 67th minutes, respectively.
Nathaniel Andrew Alquiros led the losing squad with a lone goal.
During the post-season interview, Ceres FC assistant coach Ian Treyes said the team has faced many challenges in defending their title.
“This is a sweet victory, but it’s been very hard. This year, we have lots of suspensions, injuries. But, we are happy to get this back-to-back championship for our city and our province,” Treyes said.
The team will now prepare for the Copa Paulino Alcantara tournament, which kicks off on September 1.
