THE Buenavista National High School (BNHS) basketball team capitalized on their high percentage shooting to top the ongoing 2018 National Basketball Training Center (NBTC)-Guimaras at the Sta. Teresa NHS covered gym.

Last Dec 4, 2018, Buenavista fortified their campaign with an unblemished 4-0 record after defeating Jordan NHS, 76-71.

They also defeated Sta. Teresa NHS, 70-68, after disposing of East Valencia NHS, 89-73, and Good Shepherd’s Fold Academy (GSFA), 79-73.

Guimaras State College (GSC) also played inspired basketball after winning their last three games. They first beat East Valencia NHS, 78-61, before making mincemeat of Jordan NHS, 62-52, and Sta. Teresa NHS, 94-82.

In third place is Trinidad V. Canja (Sta. Teresa) with 2 wins and 2 losses. Good Shepherd’s Fold, East Valencia, and Agsanayan are tied in fourth place with one win and three losses each while Jordan NHS is still winless after three games.

After NBTC Guimaras, commissioner Dr. Richard Gabayoyo said the island province will host the Guimaras Basketball Pocket Tournament on January 12-13, 2019.

“This will be a competitive basketball bonanza as teams from Antique, Aklan, Iloilo, and Guimaras will see action for the inaugural title. I hope that this event will help Guimaras promotes its sports tourism programs and activities,” Gabayoyo added.

Aside from basketball competition, the Island province will also hold the Guimaras Volleyball Championship Elite Edition which kicks off on Dec. 26 at the Buenavista covered gym. Teams from all five municipalities in Guimaras will compete in the weeklong sporting events.
