THE basketball team of Dumangas, Iloilo will try to bounce back from a shocking loss to Oton in Game 1 of the Biron Cup Inter-municipality Basketball Championship series when they tangle once more at the Passi City Arena on June 23, 2018.

Oton took the upper hand in Game 1 after a hard-earned 77-74 victory against Dumangas.

Dumangas coach Filomar Dolendo made a surprise move when he assigned Lloyd Cartagena to play defense against man mountain Epoy Bellones.

The gamble paid off as Cartagena got the ire of Bellones which resulted in unsportsmanlike fouls to both players.

With the resurgence of Carlo Manajero who made two triples, Dumangas added a new option in their offense. They also converted seven rainbow shots, with four coming from shooter Randy Payopelin.

Despite their rousing Game 1 win, Oton is expected to go all out in Game 2.

By tradition, Oton is home of basketball heroes having produced players who became household names in the local and national scenes.

Olympian Totik Flores, PBA player Ronald Tubid, and Iloilo sensation Yhalmar Gepayo are all natives of Oton.

“Game 1 is gone and we are looking to this Saturday’s game. We will put emphasis on team defense, no easy shots for key players of Dumangas, no second chances and we will try to finish this series,” said coach Albert Nonoy Nabo.

Oton’s big man Epoy Bellones was visibly off in Game 1.

“Epoy traveled a lot just to play the Game 1. He was in Masbate for a family affair, had to travel by land for how many hours to catch the flight to Iloilo. But in Game 2, you’ll see a different Bellones,” said team manager SB Jun Jun Alconga.
