A TOTAL of P8,689,000 will be allotted to Bacolod student-athletes when they join the 2017 Palarong Negros Island Region (NIR) in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental on Feb. 24 to Mar. 1.
The budget, which was approved by the Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP), will be used for the uniforms, transportation, accommodations, equipment, and allowances of the Bacolod City contingent.
According to Bacolod City Councilor Caesar Distrito, the resolution was passed upon the request of Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Department of Education (DepEd) Bacolod City Schools Superintendent Cynthia Demavivas.
Bacolod City will send 636 athletes to the DepEd-sanctioned competition.
More or less 12,000 athletes are expected to join the Palarong NIR which will feature 22 sporting events – archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, softball, baseball, boxing, football, gymnastics, taekwondo, wushu, pencak silat, sepak-takraw, tennis, futsal, dancesports, basketball, chess, table tennis, volleyball, billiards, and other special events.
