ANTIQUE runners topped the men’s and women’s races of the Liberation of Panay 54k Ultramarathon 2017 in Iloilo City on March 18.
John Ray Onifa of Hamtic, Antique ruled the men’s category after clocking 4 hours, 26 minutes, and 30 seconds to beat fellow ultramarathoners Leodenir Nemis of Capiz (5:00:12) and John Mosscoso of Calinog town, (5:12:17).
In the women’s division, Graciela Lyann Pequena of San Jose, Antique clocked 7 hours, 38 minutes, and 11 seconds to outrun Diding Boersma of Aklan 7:49:13).
Completing the top finishers in the men’s race were Jonas Daligdig of Iloilo (6:35), John Mutard Brillanez of Miagao (6:35), and Alejandro Paez of Manila (7:35).
The event, which was part of the celebration of Liberation of Panay, kicked off 3 a.m. at the Carpenter’s Bridge in Iloilo River.
The route included Iloilo, Oton, Tigbauan, Leon, Barracks Road Cordova, Alimodian, San Miguel Plaza, Mandurriao, Megaworld, then finished at the Iloilo River Esplanade.
