DRIBBLERS from the town of Ajuy, Iloilo advanced to the semifinals of the 2017 Biron Cup Inter-municipality Basketball Tournament after ending the campaign of Oton, 96-83, at the Oton municipal covered gym, July 15.
Skylde Corillo bucketed 31 big points, including 15 baskets to lead Ajuy which will face the winner between Sara and Pototan in the semifinal round.
Ajuy trailed at the end of the first half, 42-50, but they staged a comeback in the third canto.
The game was momentarily stopped after Oton’s wingman Bimbo Doligues accidentally wounded Corillo’s face.
After the incident, Ajuy head coach Nick Belicano fielded Baterna in the third frame for defensive purposes. The defensive stops led to back to back triples which boosted Ajuy’s game.
Despite the injury, Corillo, who was celebrating his birthday during the game, returned to the hard court and led his team to victory.
Aming Doligues topscored for Oton with 23 points while his brother Bimbo contributed 22 points. Fritz Haro also chipped in 15 points for the losing team.
Meanwhile, Mina also bagged the semis seat after pounding Anilao, 91-82, at the Mina Sports and Cultural Center, July 15.
James Yap bombed back-to-back treys in the crucial fourth period to help Mina.
Benny Defensor led the winning team with 24 points supported by Yap with 12 baskets. Remias Gocoon, on the other hand, produced 27 points for Anilao.
Mina will take on the winner between New Lucena and Barotac Nuevo in the semifinals match.
