A GRADE 10 athlete from Romanito Maravilla Sr. National High School (RMSNHS) in Negros Occidental shattered the record in the secondary girl’s javelin throw during the 2018 Palarong Pambansa in Vigan, Ilocos Sur.
Ann Catherine Quitoy of Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Blue Barons threw 45.72 meters to break the record of Sylvian Faith Abunda of Northern Mindanao in the 2017 Palaro.
Abunda captured the silver this year after throwing 41.28m. Marizel Buer (38.44m) of Region 12 settled for the bronze medal.
Also, Rhena Gimarangan of San Carlos City, Negros Occ. also won two gold medals in the Paralympic shot put and 100m dash events. She also clinched a bronze in the long jump category.
In softball, the Blue Barons blanked Eastern Visayas, 13-0 in the elementary division while the secondary team demolished MIMAROPA, 18-0. The secondary boys’ baseball team also defeated Davao Region, 5-0.
Region 6’s secondary volleyball girls represented by Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS) also blasted SOCCSKSARGEN (Region 12) on April 16, 22-25, 25-15, and 25-16. They pulled off their second win over Cagayan Valley Region (Region 2) in two straight sets, 25-12 and 25-15.
In elementary football, WVRAA captured two early victories with a 4-0 triumph over CARAGA and Cagayan Valley Region, 7-0.
