TAEKWONDO jins from St. Robert’s International Academy (SRIA) clinched nine gold and 10 silver medals to bag the championship in the secondary level of the 2018 Iloilo Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Meet.
The games held at the Ateneo de Iloilo (AdI) wrapped up on Oct. 7.
The Sindico siblings Raphael Lloyd and Ronald Pico led SRIA with gold medals in the Kyorugi events.
2018 Inter-school Taekwondo Championships MVP Angela Bermejo of Miagao, Iloilo won a gold medal in secondary girls’ Poomsae.
Other gold medalists in Kyorugi are Joshua Glenn Grecia, Jhed Anthony Morata, Princess Dedoroy, Kyna Gemarino, Katrina Pabelico Mamaril, and Geraldine Aguirre Diana.
The team also grabbed three silver medals in Kyorugi courtesy of Red Dyron Dedoroy Lusaya, Shanen Anica Feranco, and Jannah Cheska Solatorio.
In secondary Poomsae, silver medals went to Red Dyron Lusaya (Individual A), Angela Bermejo (Individual A), Geraldine Diana (Individual B), Raphael Sindico (Individual A), and Jhed Morata (Individual B).
In team Girls’ Team Poomsae, Bermejo, Diana, and Lusaya won a silver.
The Sindico brothers, along with Grecia, also got silver medals in Boys’ Team Poomsae.
In secondary Mixed Pair Poomsae, Ronald and Gemarino also won silver medals.
The SRIA jins were trained by Denmark Pinggol, Melcris Villarin, Rolly Solas, and Kevin Lasala.
According to Ana Sindico, mother of Raphael and Ronald, they are happy for winning the crown in secondary girls’ and boys’ divisions.
“We are glad that all our efforts were paid off. At last, we topped this year’s competition and we’re looking forward to compete in various national sporting events,” she added.
Sindico said that six SRIA jins will be sent to Thailand for a Sports Academy training – Sindico brothers, Grecia, Dedoroy, Bermejo, and Gemarino.
“We hope that this training will further develop their taekwondo prowess. In the meantime, our kids are also gearing up for the upcoming Iloilo Private Schools Athletic Association (ILOPRISAA) Meet on Nov. 10 at Central Philippine University (CPU),” Sindico added.
