DRIBBLERS from Hercor College of Roxas City made a threatening appearance in the opening of the 2017 Philippine University Games (UniGames) as they trounced Silliman University, 70-60, in the men’s basketball game held in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, Oct 24.
Hercor converted high-percentage shots in the shaded area to tide them over the host team.
Meanwhile, STI-West Negros University routed ACSAT, 91-63, in the second game while Negros Oriental State University opened its campaign with a lopsided 80-30 victory over Siliman in the women’s cage tourney.
St. La Salle Bacolod also pulled off its first win in men’s football after hammering Foundation University, 5-1.
University of the Philippines (UP) Maroons opened its campaign with a 1-0 drubbing of DLSU Green Booters.
University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses and De La Salle University Lady Spikers also posted impressive wins in women’s volleyball.
Defending champion UST banked on Ennajie Laure and Cherry Rondina for an easy victory against College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers, 25-20, 25-23, 17-25, 25-18.
UAAP champions Lady Spikers was led by Kim Dy, Desiree Cheng and Ernestine Tiamzon in blasting University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas, 25-8, 25-15, 25-12.
NCAA champion Arellano University Lady Chiefs scored 25-14, 25-14, 25-13 against Foundation University while University of Mindanao-Tagum dominated Silliman University 25-17, 25-13, 25-23.
In men’s volleyball, UST Tiger Spikers upset University of Mindanao-Tagum 25-16, 25-9, 25-16 while DLSU Green Spikers defeated Arellano University Chiefs, 25-19, 25-19, 25-20.
