BOOTERS from the 4th Congressional District Sports Association (CDSA) represented by Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo were all business in defending their title in secondary boys’ football after beating Iloilo City Schools Sports Council (ICSSC), 6-1, in opening day of the 2017 Iloilo Schools Sports Council (ISSC) Meet at the Iloilo Sports Complex (ISC) football field, Dec. 6.
Trained by veteran head coach Domingo Subo, the team comprised of Barotac Nuevo players made mincemeat out of ISSC which was led by Mandurriao National High School (MNHS).
The defending champions aim to hold on to the crown they won since 2014.
ICSSC was first to score early in the game but 4th CDSA launched an offensive barrage to clip the city-based athletes’ euphoria.
Lorent John Jayaon paced 4th CDSA with three goals while teammates Roque Empleo Jr., Khent Brian Valenzuela and Carl Franz Mahinay chipped in a goal each.
After notching their first win, 4th CDSA will face powerhouse team from Iloilo Private Schools Athletic Association (ILOPRISAA) comprised of Central Philippine University (CPU) Golden Lions today, Dec 7, at 9 a.m.
ILOPRISAA team, which includes 16 players from CPU and 1 each from Ateneo de Iloilo (AdI) and Assumption Iloilo, also blanked ICSSC, 2-0, on Dec 6.
AdI striker Kondrad Keim Sollorin drew first blood while Brian Chad Yap Alba of CPU sealed the victory for ILOPRISAA.
In elementary boys’ football, ILOPRISAA also gave the City Schools a 10-0 drubbing while 1st CDSA and 2nd CDSA clinched their first wins at the expense of 3rd CDSA (4-2) and 5th CDSA (3-0), respectively.
The 2017 ISSC Meet, which opened Monday afternoon at the ISC football grounds, gathers more than 1,500 student-athletes, coaches, and officials.
Themed “Pagsisikap at Pagtuto, Isapuso’t isip ng Atletang Ilonggo,” seven teams are now competing in the tournament – 1st CDSA, 2nd CDSA, 3rd CDSA, 4th CDSA, 5th CDSA, ILOPRISAA, and Iloilo City Schools Sports Council (ICSSC).
With 15 sports disciplines in both elementary and secondary levels, the competition will end on Dec. 9, 2017.
Winners in the ISSC Meet will represent Iloilo in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet on Feb 2018 in Iloilo.
