1ST GANZON CUP: USA-ILOPRISAA captures first victory

THE University of San Agustin (USA)-Iloilo Private Schools Athletic Association (ILOPRISAA) basketball team rediscovered their usual brand of play in the ongoing 1st Ganzon Cup Basketball Championships as they pulled off their first victory over Star V.A. Sports Asialink, 102-78, at the Brgy. Katilingban covered court in Molo, Iloilo City, Jan. 11, 2018.

After struggling from the field during their first two games, the Joephil Cercado-mentored Augustinians recovered from their painful defeats by routing the winless Star V.A. Sports Asialink.

USA cager Lawrence Magtolis lifted his team after scoring 18 points in the ball game.

The Augustinians lost their opening game against Jav’s Calibration, 87-89. They also fell to Solane, 92-69, during their second match.

With the recent win, USA-ILOPRISAA carries a 1-2 win-loss slate.

In the second game, Jav’s Calibration captured their second victory after beating J. Cordon Construction, 101-94.

The 2015 Dumarao Mayor’s Cup champions were led by Mark Cineza with 21 points to improve their standing with 2 wins and 2 losses in the tournament.

On Sunday, only one team will remain on top as Solane and Toto TiaTen, which are both undefeated in the tournament, will face each other at 3 p.m.

It will be followed by the match between J. Cordon Construction and USA-ILOPRISAA at 4:30 p.m. The last game at 6 p.m. will pit Star V.A. Sports Asialink against Jav’s Calibration.

Organized by the Bigshots Sports of Iloilo under Chairman Rudolph Jeffrey Ganzon and Commissioner Ramon “June2” Sia, the tournament aims to strengthen the players’ camaraderie and sportsmanship.
