THE American Association of Western Visayas under Capt. Nelson Ynion celebrated the 4th of July in the historic groundbreaking and blessing of their latest project, the Gen. Douglas McArthur Visitors’ Center in Guimaras.
Formerly known as “Buenavista Wharf,” it was built by Lt. Douglas MacArthur in 1903 while on duty with the US Corps of Engineers.
It was in this place where MacArthur, fresh from West Point Germany, was ambushed by guerillas who barely missed his head and perhaps could have changed the course of history.
The Gen. Douglas MacArthur Visitors’ Center will house memorabilia’s and vintage pictures. Similar visitors’ centers will also be established to boost tourism in the island province.
A festive American-themed luncheon followed at Villa Santarina Inland Resort where the charming owner, Alma Santarina, prepared a sumptuous feast to cap the 4th of July American Celebration!
