Russia and China ahead in women’s teams, America awaits
TOKYO, July 25 (EFE) .- Russia and China lead the classification by women’s gymnastics teams at the Tokyo Games at the end of two of the five subdivisions, waiting to see what the United States does in the next, selection title. Defends and Simone counts along with Biles in his ranks.
The top eight teams at the end of the five subdivisions will advance to Tuesday’s final.
The Russians added 171,629 points, higher than the rest in all instruments except the bar, which was for China.
The Chinese gymnast is keen to amend her departure from the podium at the 2019 World Cup, in which she finished fourth behind the Italians. Today, in a qualifying round whose grades would not be included in the final, they overtook the Transalpinus (166,863 by 166,330) and the British slipped (163,396) between them.
Japan ranks fifth with 162,662.
In the individual classification, which will decide the 24 finalists of the full competition, three Russian women set the tone: Angelina Melnikova, who was bronze at the previous World Cup, took first place (57,132), followed by Vladislava Urazova (57,099) and Victoria Listunova ( 56,932), although only two per country can participate in the final.
Chinese world runner-up Tan Zhijing took his place with 56,432 points.
The Italians had Elise D’Amato (54,199) their best asset, while Mai Murakami in Japan, the world runner-up in 2018, remains the most solvent (53,965), despite some gross errors.
