Promoting peace: Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals offer support groups for individuals with long-covid
Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals Provides Support for Long Covid Patients
In recognition of International Long Covid Awareness Day on March 15, Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals is offering support groups for individuals struggling with long-term symptoms of the virus. Long Covid, also known as post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC), can cause persistent symptoms such as shortness of breath, brain fog, and joint or muscle pain.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, long Covid may entitle individuals to disability and accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Regina Matthias, a former pulmonary nurse who contracted Covid in 2020, was later diagnosed with long Covid in 2023. Matthias has shared her struggles with forgetfulness, excruciating pain, and feeling isolated in her journey.
Joining the post-Covid support group at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital has brought Matthias overwhelming peace and a sense of solidarity with others facing similar challenges. The group is facilitated by Allison Carson, who provides encouragement and a sense of community for participants.
The support group is open to anyone, whether they are a patient at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital or not, and is available both in-person and online for free. Matthias expresses gratitude for the program and emphasizes the need for more education and awareness about long Covid as a debilitating disease.
As the number of long Covid cases continues to rise, Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals is committed to providing much-needed support and resources for individuals experiencing persistent symptoms. By offering a platform for shared experiences and encouragement, the support group aims to help patients navigate the challenges of long-term recovery.
