The Climate and Environmental Risk Reduction Management Unit (CERRMU) of the Department of Agriculture (DA)-6 gathered the observers and stakeholders for the retooling on the upgraded parts and system of the Automated Weather Stations (AWS) in Iloilo City, June 13 to 15.
“Since there are updates on the parts and sensors of the AWS, weather observers shall be trained on troubleshooting protocols, operation, and maintenance. We target to have more accurate and systematic data gathering and observation with this improved design of AWS,” said Engr. Jimmy Eledia of DA 6- CERRMU.
Eledia added that AWS will establish a long-term strategy to reduce the impacts of the unfavorable weather incidence on the farming sector.
DA had already put up 13 AWS in Western Visayas in partnership with the Bureau of Soils and Water Management and another seven AWS units in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology 6. (Ann Marie Susbilla/DA/RAFIS-6)
