TUMANDOK: Exploring, Marketing and Publicizing Destinations

THE 13th Tumandok, the most important annual travel market in Iloilo marking the Tourism Month celebration and offering a festive mood to both tourism professionals and travellers, will be held at the fountain area of Robnsons Place Iloilo main mall from Sept 21-24, 2017.

The Provincial Tourism Office with Department of Tourism-6 and Robinsons Place Iloilo will jointly host four days of invaluable opportunities for visitors to explore, market and publicize local destination, product, culture, all in one place.

The desire of Ilonggo residents to travel has noticeably increased in the last five years. The annual travel fair has aroused a lot of interest among visitors to the fair and has marked a positive trend for the further development of the local tourism industry.

The joy and excitement of travelling is never fading and it shows that this year’s Tumandok will also be successful for providers of tourism services and the industry altogether.

With this year’s Tourism Month celebration theme, “Sustainable Tourism – a Tool for Development, “ Tumandok will offer more 24 exhibition stands and about 200 tourism students from ISAT-University main campus and its satellite campuses in Miagao and  Barotac Nuevo.

Visitors to the fair will have the opportunity to get to know the diverse tourism offer of the province over a span of four days –learn about rural destinations near and far, discover unique tourism objects and new routes, feel the hospitality of rural Iloilo, enjoy various performances, and taste various delicious food as well.

For years, the most popular destinations and the greatest interest was expressed among the groups in northern Iloilo, specifically Carles, Concepcion and Ajuy. There was also great interest in inland resorts, San Joaquin and Janiuay was the most popular among student visitors. Many would come with a specific goal to plan a trip, and they knew what they wanted.

Tumandok is an event where travel and tourism industry meets directly with consumer to gain information access on traveling to various local destinations in Iloilo Province. The event hoped to strengthen the competitiveness of the local tourism industry enabling municipalities to participate in the fair, and enlarging the local relationship.

In 2004, Tumandok was organized to celebrate Tourism Month by developing better working relationships and improve communications with the different municipalities and to promote the province of Iloilo as a tourist destination. Over the years, the event has grown partnering to many academic institutions both city and province-based.

With its 13-year history, Tumandok is the longest local travel fair in Western Visayas where tourism students promote local tourism resources and cultures in a unique style. Over the years, the event has grown partnering to many academic institutions both city and province-based.

Tumandok dedicates to encourage the sound tourism of local travellers by offering information on tourism attractions in rural Iloilo.

This event is definitely not one to be missed. The 13th Tumandok is also brought to you by the Iloilo Tourism Officers Association, Inc. (ITOA), ISAT-University and the Daily Guardian.
