MORE than 120 Rotaractors and Interactors from Panay Island under Rotary International District (RID) 3850 formally welcomed the new Rotary Year with a project dubbed “Save the Earth, Plant a Tree” Project in Brgy. Igcocolo, Guimbal, July 1, 2017.
Considered as the “Great Year”, the event was joined by all clubs in Panay and planted more or less 130 fruit bearing trees in a hilly land area located at Brgy. Igcocolo.
This year’s Rotary theme “Making a Difference” focuses on preserving and protecting the environment, the reason why the group organized the project that attended by all clubs in Iloilo and Antique.
“It was a good start for us this new Rotary Year. By planting these trees, we are slowly helping Mother Earth to live longer. We will make sure that this project will be a continuous activity for the whole year. As a Rotaractor, we are accepting the challenge to make a difference,” said Recel Joy Frisco Rotaract Club of Iloilo West president.
Rotaract Club of Antique President Grazielle Caytiles said she is happy to be part of the project which aims to protect the environment.
“This Rotary Year, we are all ready to live the motto of “Service Above Self” and by welcoming it, we in the club agreed to serve the humanity and make a great difference to our communities,” she added.
The clubs that took part in the project are RAC Club of Antique, RAC Club of Iloilo City, RAC Club of Central Iloilo City, RAC Club of Iloilo West, RAC Club of Iloilo South, RAC Club of Metro Iloilo, RAC Club of Lapaz, RAC Club of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (JBLFMU)-Molo, RAC Club of West Visayas State University (WVSU), RAC Club of University of San Agustin (USA), and Interact Club of Iloilo City. Student organizations from Guimbal National High School also joined the activity – Yes-O and Supreme Student Government (SSG).
Rotaract and Interact Clubs are part of a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world. Rotaract stands for “Rotary in action” which best describes what they are doing. Rotaractors are young professionals 18-30 years old while Interactors are comprised of high school students.
