LOVE ILLUMINATED the University of San Agustin during the KaSanAg sa Paskwa 2017 on Dec 1, an annual celebration of welcoming the Christmas season and thanksgiving for the blessings received for the whole year.
The heart-topped Christmas tree in Herrera Hall loomed over the Augustinian community around Plaza de San Agustin, a physical reminder of God’s love for His people.
Light symbolizes Christ, said Rev. Fr. Frederick C. Comendador, O. S. A., USA president.
Christmas is about spreading joy in the University. Fr. Comendador emphasized that amidst the challenges that the school faced, especially the potential impact of the full implementation of the K-12, San Agustin has been blessed with achievements in the field of academics, sports, and cultural competitions.
Notably, academic year 2017-2018 produced an Augustinian who placed fourth in the 2016 Bar Exams, two topnotchers and a 100% passing rate in the Medical Technology Licensure examinations, and a 7th placer in the Nutrition and Dietetics board examinations.
Athletes and creative talents also performed excellently in the Augustinian Schools Athletic Meet and the Iloilo Private Schools Athletic Association, winning gold and silver medals in various competitions.
Fr. Comendador also announced that San Agustin was granted the Silver Trailblazer award by the Institute for Solidarity in Asia (ISA), a non-profit organization working with the government and its units.
The university is the first institution of higher learning in the Philippines to undergo ISA’s Performance Governance System. The accreditors took note of the innovative way of how the school addressed the threat of K-12 and restructuring to its finances and governance. Consequently, the University is able to support the education of its scholars – the USA Performing Arts Groups, athletes, student assistants, and academic scholars.
Indeed, love in the service of others has been a constant driving force in the University as for example, the scholars balancing their time between class and their respective duty or practice hours, and volunteers dedicating their time and effort even outside the school. To celebrate this love, Rev. Fr. Pederito A. Aparece, O. S. A., Principal of the Basic Education Department, especially composed the KaSanAg 2017 theme song, “God’s Love Among Us”, set into music by Mr. Gerardo Muyuela, Academic Supervisor of the Conservatory of Music.
Love, the Augustinian way, is lived out to become the light thatdispels the darkness. It is a celebration of life itself as reflected by the heart shining brightly atop the University Christmas tree. Truly, there is joy in Christmas in San Agustin. KaSanAg (light) has come. (USA PEAR/jag)
