THE United Flowerhorn Association (UFA) hosted its first flowerhorn competition in the country entitled “Datu: The King of Asia” at the Atria Park District, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

The three-day event on August 17-19, 2018 served as an exhibit and competition of Flowerhorns of different sizes. Flowerhorn is an ornamental aquarium fish species believed to have first developed in parts of Asia.

The international, non-profit organization based in California has gathered 115 hobbyists from Metro Manila, Davao, Cebu, General Santos, Cotabato, Aklan, Negros, and Singapore. Overall, they have displayed 120 tanks in the exhibit.

According to Andrew Labating, UFA international administrator, the competition has seven divisions namely: Zhen Zhou, Kamfa, Local Breed, Freemarking, Freehead, Short body, and Pre-juvenile. Each division was comprised of categories based on entries’ sizes.

Flowerhorn trophies were given to the winners on the last day of the event.

UFA aims to gather top-contenders and Flowerhorn-hobbyists all throughout the country to compete, expand connections, and spread information about the Flowerhorn hobby, Labating added.
