THE College of Management of UP Visayas again made it to the national finals of the 2018 Brandstorm Innovation Competition. Team Bellus.
The team was comprised of 4th-year Business Administration (Marketing) students Abigail Vivien Avillanosa, Rizza Dianne Abaygar, and Mary Kei Escoto who made it to the top 8 competing teams in the National Finals held on April 12, 2018, at the Marco Polo Hotel in Ortigas, Manila.
The team also bagged two major awards – 1st runner-up, Brandstorm 2018 and Best in Team Spirit Special Award.
The team spirit award is presented to the team that “exhibited the most synergy and took on the presentation and Q&A with a unified, powerful spirit.”
The winning team and their mentor Tessa Albaña received L’Oréal product gift packs and P35,000 cash prize.
L’Oréal Brandstorm is an international business competition which offers students an opportunity to tackle a real business case and innovate new ideas for the international make-up beauty brand, L’Oréal.
L’Oréal reported that the competition has attracted more than 95,000 students from over 360 universities in 58 different countries since 1992.
This year marks the 10th Brandstorm in the Philippines and with the featured brand L’Oréal Professional Products Division.
The case mission was to invent the professional salon experience of the future. The competing teams were tasked to create a breakthrough innovation for salons to attract and engage millennials and increase hairdressers’ loyalty by leveraging new services, digital solutions, and connected technologies.
The Philippine leg is the second biggest Brandstorm in the world this year, with more than 1,100 teams from over 30 universities nationwide. Only 24 teams moved forward to the semi-finals, and eight teams went on to battle it out in the finals.
Notably, UP Visayas is the only non-Manila based university to compete in the national finals. Team Bellus was a close 2nd to the national champion, Team C3 of UP Diliman.
De La Salle University’s Team Tala was declared 2nd runner-up.
In 2017, on CM’s first year of joining Brandstorm, a team of senior BS in Management and BS Management-Psychology students won the National Championship and represented the Philippines in the Worldwide Finals held in Paris, France.
