THE Organization of Simsiman Mountaineers (OSM), a collective group of united mountaineers of Panay Island, together with Antique Mountaineering Society, Inc., will be launching the 1st Panay Mountain Run event dubbed Tracing Iraynon Bukidnon Trails (TIBT) in Laua-an-Bugasong boundary in Antique on 27-28 May 2017.
TIBT will feature two categories – the 21 km and 11 km distance runs with elevation gain/loss of 656 MASL/-654 MASL, correspondingly.
The race headed by Kevin Jauod and Jonathan Sulit, in partnership with the Local Government Unit of both municipalities led by Mayors Francisco Baladjay and Bernard Pesayco, and the Department of Tourism 6 under Atty. Helen Catalbas, aims
(1) to instill environmental conservation, culture preservation and local immersion
(2) to lobby local products/agri-tourism and to encourage community participation
(3) to advocate responsible eco-tourism
(4) to promote health and wellness through sports engagement
(5) to foster camaraderie among trail runners both in the locality and the rest of the country.
Iraynon-Bukidnon is one of the foremost local Indigenous People in the province.
Through this event, participants from various regions will be able to trace the route of our local ancestors. Routing the trail track alongside nature’s scenic view would also mean solitary meditation of following the IPs’ steps on the path of their life.
OSM, which is comprised of Iloilo Mountaineering Club, Inc., Talahib Eco-Trekkers, Foxtrail Eco Seekers, Magtanong Mountaineering Club, Trail Blazer, Napulak Eco-Explorers, Balagon Outdoor Club, IMEC, Mountain Stride, 360 Degrees Adventure Team, and Lagataw, will conduct an outreach activity for Brgy. Maria School and the community of Laua-an, Antique in the morning of May 27.
The Pre-Race Briefing in the afternoon will feature the “Barok” Dance of Iraynon-Bukidnon Youth Sector and will honor the Iraynon-Bukidnon Chieftain Melarie Labiao and the oldest Iraynon at 100 years old, Federico Samillano.
A National Commission of Indigenous People representative as well as the Municipal Mayor and Vice Mayor will talk about the IPs.
The event will also showcase a booth for Local Products (root crops, vegetables, poultry and abaca weaved items to wit) for sale.
On May 28, the race kicks off 4:30 a.m. at Brgy. Maria, Laua-an, which is spearheaded by Brgy. Captain Dongdong Alonsagay. MDRRMC and Red Cross of Antique will also be present to secure safety.
