Police, disaster units in Bacolod hold bomb drills

BACOLOD City – Personnel of Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) conducted bomb simulation exercises in two areas here on Tuesday.

The first was held at the old City Hall in the downtown area while the second was conducted at the Bacolod Government Center grounds on Circumferential Road.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia observed the simulation exercise at the Old City Hall grounds, with CDRRMO cluster head Jose Maria Vargas and BCPO chief Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky.

Vargas said the police are the first responders during a bomb threat or bombing incident.

They are followed by other law enforcement personnel and rescue units upon the instruction of the police and other authorities.

The drills showed how to evacuate from a building or any establishment, how to handle a bomb threat, and how to facilitate the rescue operations.

Personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Red Cross, Chamber Volunteer Fire Brigade, and Amity Volunteer Fire Brigade also took part in the bomb simulation exercises. (NLG/PNA)
