Patag Resorts illegal?

BACOLOD City – The Patag Mountain Resorts located at Brgy. Patag, Silay City, Negros Occ. are illegal, Mayor Mark Golez said on Sept 7, 2018.

Golez said the owners have no business, building, occupancy, and discharge permits, as the area that forms part of the Northern Negros Natural Park (NNNP) is under the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB).

“I cannot understand why PAMB did nothing to prevent the construction of illegal structures in Patag,” Golez said.

He added that these resorts are one of the many illegal structures in the mountainous area of the city.

Patag is among the 25 tourist destinations in the country.

Golez pointed out that because of its cool weather and scenery, local and foreign tourists are now frequenting accessibility the area.

PAMB has been regulating the use of NNNP resources since 2005.

Although he is a member of PAMB, Golez said he could not impose his authority as local chief executive as he might usurp the authority of PAMB.

He added that he has suggested that PAMB deputize the Silay City government to regulate structures in Patag but he has not received any action yet.

Golez also said that the Silay City government complied with the order to close SURETA at the Old Hospital in the barangay for lack of a discharge permit.

Earlier, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Edgardo Rostata, said they are now reviewing the case of illegal structures within the NNNP that were issued cease-and-desist orders.

Environment group Green Alert Network-Negros has also filed an administrative case before the Ombudsman against several DENR officials assigned in the province for allegedly not taking any action to remove the illegal structures in the NNNP.
