BACOLOD City – The Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (Kadamay) declared that they will take the unoccupied units constructed by the National Housing Authority (NHA) for active AFP and PNP personnel.
In a press conference on Sept 3, 2018, Kadamay-Negros Occidental Secretary-General Ereneo Luminos insisted that even though the housing units were already awarded to the AFP and PNP, these remain unoccupied.
The houses should be given to homeless families, Luminos said.
He again cited Joint Resolution No. 2 signed by Pres. Rodrigo Duterte last May, which states that informal settlers are entitled to unoccupied units constructed by NHA.
Luminos said Kadamay members are qualified as beneficiaries and it is the reason why they tried to occupy the housing units in Felisa village last week.
They are hoping that the dialogues scheduled on Friday would be fruitful, Luminos said.
Meanwhile, Chief Supt. John Bulalacao, Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 director, said he is willing to talk with Kadamay leaders regarding the issue.
But he said the group’s actions last week are “uncalled for” since the homes are already awarded to the soldiers and police officers.
Following the incident, the Bulalacao ordered Senior Supt. Francisco Ebreo, Bacolod City Police Office director, to talk with Kadamay leaders and urge them not to occupy the houses as problems may arise if they continue to do so.
