A TRAINING on gender awareness and transformative leadership for 50 women candidates running for the Sangguniang Kabataan will be conducted by PILIPINA, Inc. on April 24-25, 2018 in Silay City, Negros Occ.
Marie June Pavillar-Castro, chair of PILIPINA-Bacolod Negros Occidental Chapter, said the Gender Awareness and Transformative Youth Leadership Training, which will be held from 8 a.m. to p.m. at Sta. Theresita’s Academy in Silay City. It is open to interested women SK chair candidates of Silay, Talisay, E.B. Magalona, Victorias Murcia, and Bacolod City.
Registration is free as PILIPINA, through the Women Defend Democracy Project, will shoulder the training costs, including the venue, resource persons, handouts, certificates, snacks, and lunches.
The participants’ counterpart will be their transportation for two-days, from home to venue, and vice versa.
Should there be remaining available slots after accommodating all interested women SK Chair candidates, PILIPINA will also open the training to women candidates running for SK kagawads.
Castro said the April 24 training is designed to enable the participants to have an understanding of Basic Gender concepts; know the various socializing institutions that shaped gender; identify gender issues or biases and propose gender-fair alternatives, and share how they can apply gender-fair principles in their personal life and work.
Meanwhile, the April 25 training is designed for the participants to have a better understanding and appreciation of democracy and governance concepts; understand why women should be in politics and decision-making”; articulate the qualities of transformative leaders and transformational leadership; come-up with a gender-responsive youth agenda; and know and apply some tips in advocacy and public speaking.

Slots will be given out on a first to reserve, first to be accommodated basis.
