BACOLOD City – President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to arrive in Negros Occidental for an assembly on federalism initiated by Hugpong Federal Movement of the Philippines (HFMP) in Escalante City on Feb. 24, 2017.
Based on the invitation to some mayors which HFMP sent through Celso Tizon, cabinet officials will also join the President.
Celso Tizon, national chair of HFMP, said Duterte’s election to the presidency “is a clear signal that majority of the people is ready and amenable to effect real political reforms and radical changes by establishing a federal form of government.”
“Indeed, the political campaign for federalism as a key to political and governance transformation and the agenda of eradicating crime, corruption and drugs was undoubtedly what the majority of the people are clamoring. Hugpong Federal Movement of the Philippines is committed to this cause with God’s help,” the group said in a statement.
Hugpong Federal Movement of the Philippines, Inc. was formed in Davao City on Apr. 9, 2015 and spearheaded by Tizon, Deputy Mayor Gapor Uzman and Peter Laviña.
Hugpong Federal in Negros Occidental is headed by Mary Jean Diamante.
Also joining the assembly are Atty. Joel Obar, HFMP chief legal counsel; and Virgilio Dela Cruz, HFMP national executive secretary.
