BACOLOD City – More than PHP1 million worth of suspected shabu were seized by anti-drug personnel in three separate operations which led to the arrest of eight suspects in Bacolod City in the past two days.
On Saturday, Ruel de la Cruz, an alleged notorious robber, was arrested by operatives of the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) during a buy-bust in a pension house in the downtown area.
The suspect yielded at least PHP300,000 of shabu.
Lt. Col. Leonardo Borromeo, head of the Bacolod City Police Office CDEU, said in a radio interview that de la Cruz is included in the top 10 most wanted persons list of both Police Stations 6 and 3, for robbery.
Around 1 p.m. on Friday, high-value targets Benjamin de Juan Montalvo and Benjamin Tentiya Agravante were arrested in a buy-bust at Purok Lison, Barangay 1.
The operation was conducted by a joint team of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Negros Occidental and the Philippine National Office.
PDEA agent Mario Portugal said they seized 54 sachets of suspected shabu, weighing about 90 grams, with a street value of PHP612,000.
The operatives also recovered drug paraphernalia and an improvised shotgun with ammunition.
The arrested suspects will face charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, PDEA said.
On Friday, five persons were arrested by personnel of Police Station 3 in a buy-bust at Purok Mainuswagon, Sawmill 1, Barangay Bata.
The suspects were identified as Lumanas brothers, Ariel 32, and Artemio, 37; Willa Mae Siancua, 34; Henry Sayon, 48; and Eric Jarder, 40.
They yielded six sachets of shabu, weighing about 10 grams, with an estimated value of PHP125,000.
Operatives also seized PHP500 marked money, drug paraphernalia, three live ammunitions of .38-caliber pistol and five live ammunitions of .45-caliber pistol.
The suspects will face charges for violation of RA 9165 and RA 10591 in relation to the Commission on Elections gun ban. (PNA)
