200 cops submit to surprise drugs test

BACOLOD City – Two hundred officers of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOccPO) submitted to a surprise drug test on Aug 31, 2018.

Senior Insp. Aireen Cordua, NOccPO public information officer, said that those who took the drug tests were anti-drug operatives from the province’s police stations.

Officers from San Carlos City, Escalante City, Calatrava, Toboso, and Salvador Benedicto did not submit to the test last Friday as they already took it two weeks ago.

The results of the urine test will be released this week, Cordua said.

Prior to the surprise drug test, the operatives attended a seminar on the procedures of filing drug cases at the NOccPO headquarters.

Personnel from the Provincial Crime Laboratory facilitated the test as ordered by Senior Supt. Rodolfo Castil Jr, provincial police director.

Castil said it was part of the internal cleansing campaign of the PNP.

In mid-August, the PNP reported at least 400 personnel from various law enforcement agencies in the country had been dismissed over illegal drugs.

Senior Superintendent Benigno Durana Jr, PNP spokesman, said 267 personnel were terminated due to drug use while another 95 were due to drug-related cases.
