Teacher nabbed for ‘bouncing checks’

A TEACHER was arrested afternoon of Mar. 21, 2016 in Anini-y, Antique for issuing checks with insufficient funds.
Daycare teacher Ana Lisa Payusan, 48, was arrested at her home in Talisayan village, Anini-y.
Members of the Oton police station in Iloilo, together with the Anini-y police, arrested Payusan by virtue of an arrest warrant for violation of Batas Pambansa (BP) Bilang 22 or the Bouncing Checks Law.
Judge Emerald Requina-Contreras of Oton Municipal Trial Court issued the arrest warrant on Mar. 7, 2016.
The Rural Bank of Oton is the plaintiff against Payusan in the BP 22 case filed sometime in 2013.
Payusan admitted to issuing checks totaling P60,000 as payment for a loan she contracted from the bank. But the checks turned out to be useless for lack of funds.
When asked why she failed to honor her loan, the suspect simply claimed that she is penniless.
