CHIEF Inspector Joem Malong, Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6 spokesperson, said they have recorded six incidents relative to the enforcement of the Commission on Elections gun ban and other election-related violations over the weekend.
“We hope that we don’t have any major incident until the election period for barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections end in May 21,” she added.
Based on PRO-6 records, two persons were arrested for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
Jonathan Sison, 33, was the first to be arrested 1am of April 14 at Ana El KTV Bar at Lopez Jaena St., Barangay Zone 4, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
Sison of Hacienda Cornel 2, Barangay Cabahug, Cadiz City was collared while police were conducting Oplan Bakal Sita.Seized from him was a caliber .357 Smith and Wesson revolver loaded with five ammunition.
Aside from RA 10591 and Comelec gun ban violations, he will also face a case for breaching Article 179 of the Revised Penal Cofe for wearing a PNP athletic uniform with markings “PULIS” when arrested.
In Iloilo City at around 10:30am of April 15, John Michael Salido was arrested at Zone 12, Barangay Calaparan, Arevalo.
Two persons were also arrested in Mansilingan, Bacolod City and Mandurriao, Iloilo City for possession of deadly weapon.
In Tobias Fornier, Antique, a person voluntarily surrendered a firearm.
Meanwhile, two persons were arrested 12:30am of April 14, 2018 after evading a checkpoint at Poblacion Ilawod, Lambunao, Iloilo.
Rey Galino and Ron-Ron, a minor, sped off and accidentally ran over the checkpoint signage.
The two suspects, who were believed to be under the influence of liquor, sustained injuries on the head and other parts of their body.
Malong said all provincial and city police offices, with a total of 147 police stations, conducted simultaneous Comelec checkpoints at the strike of 12 midnight of April 14.
