Shooting enthusiast nabbed in gun raid

A GUN SPORT enthusiast was arrested in a firearms raid early morning of Sept 7, 2018 in Cabatuan, Iloilo.

Police stormed the house of Mario Herezo, 48, at Barangay Tabucan after receiving reports that he was illegally possessing a firearm.

Joint elements of the Regional Intelligence Division 6 (RID-6), PNP Special Action Force, and Cabatuan Police Station recovered a caliber .45 pistol (model M1911 A1 FSG1 with serial number 1421107), seven magazines, 38 ammunition for caliber .45 pistol, and an improvised ammunition reloader.

the office of Senior Superintendent Romeo Baleros, RID-6 chief, which received the information on Herezo’s unlicensed firearm.

Chief Inspector Benjo Clarete of the RID-6 said they first checked with the PNP Firearms and Explosives Division (FED) to verify if he has a registered firearm.

“It was negative. There’s no record of him having a licensed firearm,” Clarete said.

Herezo presented an identification card for his gun license but it expired 2016.

But FED database did not indicate that Herezo was keeping a firearm with an expired license.

He is now detained and will be charged for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
