Ship apprentice missing after falling into sea

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A 20-year-old marine trainee went missing after he accidentally fell into the Sibuyan Sea due to bad weather.

John Lajo of Barangay Atiplo, Mambusao, went overboard after big waves slammed on their ship.

According to his cousin Jay-R Lajo, the victim was a trainee of Ocean Jet 12 owned by Ocean Fast Ferries, Inc. based in Cebu City.

On Saturday, Lajo’s ship went out to sea from Calapan, Mindoro to Cebu despite the inclement weather.

Jay-R reported that his cousin was helping two companions enter one of the vessel’s cabins when the wave hit the ship.

According to a report, a Chinese tanker passed by and helped in the 4-hour search and rescue operation but to no avail.
