Personal grudge eyed in town shooting

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Police are eying personal grudge as the motive behind a shooting incident evening of Jan. 31, 2017 at Brgy. Sagrada Familia in Dumarao town which resulted in the death of a 30-year old farmer died.

Francisco Ibañez was declared dead on arrival at Barotac Viejo District Hospital in Barotac Viejo, Iloilo after he was allegedly shot by Romeo Bernardo, 59, also of Sagrada Familia.

Police investigation revealed that Bernardo was at the house of Mylene Joy Estilo, 32, at around 11 p.m. Tuesday when Ibañez arrived.

The victim then confronted the suspect until a heated argument erupted.

Bernardo suddenly pulled a gun of unknown caliber and shot Ibañez’s back.

The suspect hurriedly fled and the victim was brought to the hospital.

The investigation also indicated that prior to the incident, Ibañez allegedly scolded Bernardo for spreading rumors about him.

Both victim and suspect are both tenants of a property owned by certain Dr. Ramonito Tubongbanwa.

Police launched manhunt operation against the suspect who is believed to have fled to Brgy. Santo Angel in Dumalag, Capiz.
