Palace vows not to influence final Luisita ruling
THE Office of the President assured the public it will not, in any way, influence the final decision of the Supreme Court on the Hacienda Luisita case.
In a press conference, Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said he can guarantee that Malacañang “will not get in the way” of whatever the decision would be on Hacienda Luisita.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court revoked the 1989 Stock Distribution Plan (SDP) deal in the sugar estate in Tarlac and ordered the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) to implement a new referendum among farmer-beneficiaries. They could choose to retain their lands or hold stocks of the company that owns the agricultural land
The decision can still be appealed.
Nonetheless, the Palace is waiting for the recommendation of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Secretary and Solicitor General whether it would appeal the SC decision.
Asked if the President can just order the redistribution of land, Lacierda said, “number one, let us be clear. The President has already divested his shares. Number two, all the more that there is a Supreme Court decision, that decision must be observed.” (abs-cbnNEWS.com)
