MORE OR less P48 million was set aside for the construction of sewerage treatment facilities for 11 district hospitals and one provincial hospital in Iloilo.
Department of Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial committed P32 million while the provincial government will pitch in P16 million.
Ubail made the commitment During her visit in Janiuay town on Jan 31, 2017.
DOH-6 Regional Director Marlyn Convocar said that while the 12 facilities have sewerage treatment facilities, many are non-functional.
Wastes from hospitals such as water, feces, and blood contain viruses and bacteria, thus the need for treatment before disposal.
“Our engineers will still evaluate the 12 district hospitals. The fund will go to those which are in need of the facility,” Convocar said.
Convocar said they might implement the program next year.
Provincial Administrator Raul Banias said that one of the requirements of DOH for hospital licensing is the sewerage treatment plant.
