THE MOST wanted person of Oton, Iloilo was arrested afternoon of Jan. 27, 2016 in Cavite.

It took two years for police operatives to finally track down Roberto Vergara, 59 of Poblacion South, Oton.

Officers of the Oton Police Station, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-4A), Provincial Public Safety Company, and Provincial Intelligence Branch of Cavite Police Provincial Office (CPPO) arrested Vergara at his friend’s house in Salitran village, Dasmariñas City.

Vergara was nabbed by virtue of an arrest warrant for murder in Criminal Case No. 14-74107 issued Regional Trial Court Judge Guilljie Delfin-Lim on June 5, 2014.

No bail was recommended for his temporary liberty.

The accusation against Vergara stemmed from a murder incident that happened on May 6, 2013 at Brgy. Poblacion South, Oton.

Vergara, together with his neighbour Fil Solangon, allegedly conspired in killing another neighbour, Arlyn dela Cruz, who was then 46 years old.

The victim was sitting on a bench inside a store when the suspects punched and stabbed dela Cruz.

The victim sustained multiple stab wounds in the chest and died at Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City.

The two suspects fled after the incident.

While Vergara was arrested after more than two years, Solangon remains at-large as of presstime.

Superintendent Ruby Gumban, Oton police chief, said Vergara was reported to have hidden in Antique province after the incident.

Police later received information that he fled to Luzon and sought refuge in his friends’ houses in Bulacan and Cavite.

A week before his arrest, a tipster claimed he was in Bulacan but later went back to Cavite.
