ROXAS City, Capiz – Barangay Olotayan here now has stable power supply starting July 7, 2018, after several months of delay.
Olotayan village chief Leah Aninang said their dream came true after Engr. Edgar Diaz, Capiz Electric Cooperative (Capelco) general manager, made good of his promise.
“Now that the island village has a stable power supply, expect more development particularly on tourism,” Aninang said.
She added that 250 houses have electricity supply after the ceremonial switch-on Saturday afternoon.
Olotayan is about 2.7 kilometers away from Sitio Liad Brgy. Agojo in Panay town where Capelco tapped its power supply line.
Diaz earlier assured the residents of the island barangay that their dream would soon come true after the submarine cables from Agojo village in Panay have been installed on the island.
The project, which cost P68 million, was initiated by the administration of former Pres. Benigno Aquino III under the Barangay Line Enhancement Program (BLEP) of the Department of Energy.
The groundbreaking ceremony of the electrification project was held on March 14, 2016, but it suffered delays in the installation of submarine cable due to procurement procedures.
The installation of the power supply is seen to boost the island barangay’s tourism and business potentials.
