NP bets in city, province to file candidacies today

CANDIDATES of the Nacionalista Party (NP) both in Iloilo City and Iloilo Province will file their certificates of candidacy (COCs) today, Oct 11, 2018.

Iloilo City bets led by Mayor Jose Espinosa III will attend a mass at 6 a.m. at San Jose Parish Church before walking to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office at the Iloilo Terminal Market for the COC filing.

Former councilor Perla Zulueta, NP’s congressional bet, earlier said they have already secured a permit for the activity.

“We will be joined by not less than 5,000 supporters,” Zulueta said.

Aside from Zulueta, Espinosa’s slate includes Councilors R Leoni Gerochi for vice mayor, and Eduardo “Ed” Peñaredondo, Liezl Joy Zulueta-Salazar, Lyndon Acap, Candice Tupas, Mandrei Malabor, and Roldel Fullon-Agado for councilors.

In Iloilo province, the camp of fourth district Rep. Ferjenel Biron, who is running for governor, will also file their COCs this morning at the Comelec-Iloilo Provincial Office in La Paz, Iloilo City this morning.

Rep. Biron has yet to name his running mate for governor but the likely candidate is a member of the Garin family.

Biron’s bets congressional bets in the third and fourth districts would be known today. the candidate in the first district is still one of the Garins.

Pavia mayor Michael Gorriceta is running for the second district seat while fifth district Rep. Raul “Boboy” Tupas is seeking reelection.

Biron’s full slate for the provincial level, including the board members, will be revealed today during the filing.



Meanwhile, the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) candidates in the city ad province have yet to announce the schedule of their filing.

In an interview with The Daily Guardian, former councilor Julienne “Jam-Jam” Baronda said the camp of Rep. Jerry Treñas is meeting today to iron out their plans.

As revealed earlier, Treñas’ lineup has the acronym JJJ-JGGHETZ-DBP:

  • Jamjam Baronda – congressman
  • Jerry Treñas – mayor
  • Jeffrey Ganzon – vice mayor

For city councilors:

  • Javellana, Jojo
  • Ganzon, Rudolph Jeffrey
  • Garcia, Gilbert
  • Hervias, Reyland
  • Estante, Ely
  • Treñas, Jay
  • Zaldivar, Allan
  • Duron, Romel
  • Baronda, Lady Julie Grace
  • Parcon, Armand

Baronda said the slate will be composed of candidates from the different parties.

As to the activities, they will still seek the opinion of their leaders and supporters.

But she said their theme is a “show of support” and not a show of force. They have initially prepared the leaders and supporters to accompany them.

“I do not know the head count but basically they will accompany us in the filing,” she said.

Iloilo third district Rep. Arthur Defensor Jr., who is running against Biron in the gubernatorial race, also has yet to announce the schedule of their COC filing.

Defensor also has not bared his final slate, but he already confirmed that his running mate is Barotac Viejo Mayor Niel Tupas III.
