FOR the second time, the municipality of Lambunao, Iloilo is one of the recipients of the Seal of Good Education Governance from Synergia Foundation for its efforts in improving the delivery of basic education to its constituents.

Mayor Jason Gonzales received the award on Sept 6, 2018 during the National Education Summit at the Philippine International Convention Center.

The Seal of Good Education Governance is awarded to local government units (LGUs) that effectively organize all systems and processes in the delivery of basic education.

In order to receive the seal, LGUs must have reinvented their local school board with functional and activated school governing councils.

Aside from high percentage of children completing Grade 6, the LGUs should also have investment on programs that improve learning.

The MISP (Meditation in School Project), which is one of the educational projects in Lambunao, was also presented by Gonzales on the panel during the National Education Summit.

“This is unique because no other town practices meditation on children. We teach the children to meditate and we monitor six schools with 493 children who are subjects of the study. Before we start, they mediate for two minutes and after one month we assessed the students based on participation, attention, and classroom behavior,” Gonzales explained.

According to Gonzales, their study revealed that meditation helps improve the learning outcomes of students, improved focus and class participation and reduces unruly behavior.

The 24 municipalities and cities who are recipients of the Seal of Good Education Governance will receive an incentive from the PLDT/Smart telecommunication company which is P1.5 million worth of communication packages including P100, 000 worth of oil from Sea Oil; playground equipment from SGV; and books from Jesse Robredo Foundation.

Synergia, which was established in 2002, is a coalition of individuals and organizations working closely with LGUs in order improve the delivery of basic education to Filipino children. Every year, the foundation awards the Seal of Good Education Governance to deserving LGUs.
