THE Liberal Party (LP) will slowly have a new face, according to former Quezon Rep. Lorenzo “Erin” Reyes Tañada III.
Tañada, who is the vice president for external affairs of LP, said they will open the party to ordinary sectors and include them in the crafting of policies.
“We will slowly change the face of the party. We will give a big role to the public in the decision making processes. Not only will the politicians make the decisions,” he told the local press.
Tañada was in Iloilo City on Aug 30, 2018 to discuss federalism and Charter Change (Cha-Cha) in two schools.
He also paid a courtesy call to his former party mate Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. and graced the town fiesta of Lambunao, Iloilo upon invitation of Mayor Jason Gonzales.
While majority of their big leaders have transferred to the ruling party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), Tañada said many are still interested to join LP.
Some of them are not politicians, he added.
For the 2019 elections, the Liberal Party will also forge coalitions for its senatorial slate.
According to Tañada, it will be comprised of representatives from Magdalo Partylist, Tindig Pilipinas, Aksyon Demokratiko, and Anakbayan.
Tañada said he is interested in joining the LP list of senators.
“Maybe in the next week, there will be an official announcement as to the final slate and as to who will be running under the coalition,” he said.
LP used to be the ruling party under the administration of former president Benigno Aquio III. It is now an inferior party with the assumption of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte who is under the PDP-Laban.
