ROXAS City, Capiz – More than P12 million in financial assistance will be distributed to Capiz farmers.
Office of the Provincial Agriculturist head Sylvia dela Cruz said there was a delay in the distribution of financial assistance to farmers affected by tropical depression Agaton.
In a joint meeting of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, Provincial Peace and Order Council and Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council on June 27, said a number of factors affected the distribution of the aid to farmers.
The delayed submission or finalization of master lists of farmers affected, the limited number of personnel authorized to process cash advances, limited funds to be advanced to the authorized personnel due to COA guidelines, and the holding of other major activities like barangay election and Capiztahan caused the delay.
Dela Cruz said a total of P13,076,100 were already distributed to the farmers, with each farmer receiving P2,175 assistance.
“As of June 27, a total of P12,736,800 are still to be distributed to the affected farmers whose towns were placed under the state of calamity,” she said.
She added that the financial assistance for the affected farmers of Pontevedra, Sigma and Panitan towns were already released, while that for farmers in Maayon were partially released and the fund to aid the affected farmers for Cuartero and Mambusao towns is ready.
Nearly P26-million from the province’s calamity fund was realigned by the PDRRMC early this year for the post-disaster rehabilitation and recovery assistance to farmers who were heavily affected by flooding due to “Agaton.” (PIA-Capiz)
