Councilor faces ethics complaint over traffic row

ROXAS City, Capiz – A member of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) here is facing an ethics complaint when he allegedly tried to coddle a traffic violator apprehended by the Traffic Management Unit (TMU).

Traffic auxiliary Renely Bendoy, 45, of Sityo Nasagod, Barangay Lanot here said he is mulling to file the case against City Councilor Jon Somcad before the SP.

Bendoy claimed that Somcad allegedly grabbed the motorcycle key owned by a traffic rule violator, which the former apprehended.

According to TMU chief Junie June Hervias, Somcad went to their substation office at the foot of Capiz Bridge and confronted Bendoy for apprehending the motorcycle.

Bendoy was on duty when he apprehended the motorcycle driver at San Roque Extension Street here last week for lack of a side view mirror and a valid driver’s license and for using an open muffler.

Somcad later arrived at the substation and confronted Bendoy.

An argument ensued between until Somcad grabbed the key and gave it to the motorcycle owner who was at the substation.

The driver later left with his motorcycle.

Somcad has yet to comment on the issue.
