ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The Commission on Elections said it expects to register almost 500,000 voters in Capiz for the 2019 elections.
Capiz Provincial Election Supervisor lawyer Wil Arceño said over 14,000 Capizeños have registered as of Sept 1, 2018.
“Should the more than 14,000 applicants for registration be approved by the Election Registration Board of their respective city and towns, these will be added to the 479,999 registered voters in Capiz based on the May 2018 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections,” Arceño said.
The Election Registration Board is comprised of the Local Civil Registrar, Municipal or City Election Officer, and District Supervisor of the Department of Education.
The new applicants for registration include the new voters, registered voters who wish to transfer their registration records, and those who applied for reactivation, he said.
“We are happy with the turn-out of registration so far as the different local offices of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) are doing satellite registration in the barangays to reach the community,” Arceño said, adding that the Roxas City COMELEC office will do the satellite registration in a university here.
He added that voters’ registration are conducted in far-flung barangays of Tapaz town.
Arceño reiterated his call for those applicants to register the soonest possible time as the deadline for voter’s registration is Sept 29. (PIA-Capiz)
