ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The camp of businessman Rogelio “Nonoy” Buaron is planning to sue for damages the persons who accused him of masterminding the murder of former Lawaan village chief Elvis Asis five months ago.
A source close to the businessman said that aside from counter damages, Buaron will also file forgery case against the witnesses who linked him in the murder and attempted murder cases.
“It will be millions of pesos that will be asked from those who implicated the name of Buaron to the cases,” the source said.
On Aug 28, 2018, the Roxas City Prosecutor’s Office indicted Joy “Tata” Bacus of Brgy. Bakhaw Mandurriao, Iloilo City and a certain John Doe for the death of Asis on April 27, 2018.
Aside from Asis, his aide Joselito Casila was also wounded in the shooting incident.
Buaron of Poblacion Ilawod, Panay, Capiz and owner of Dream Palace Resort and Hotel was also implicated in the case but he was exonerated for lack of evidence.
In a 10-page joint resolution, the investigating prosecutor believed Casila’s positive identification of the gunmen.
Casila said Bacus used a .45-caliber pistol in shooting the victims but the latter denied the allegation in his counter-affidavit.
On the other hand, the prosecutor said that the allegation against Buaron as the mastermind was a mere hearsay.
During the preliminary hearing, Asis’ widow and successor Jocelyn testified that Buaron and her husband were long time friends. Buaron allegedly recruited her husband to engage in the illegal number games locally known as “daily double.”
Jocelyn claimed that days before her husband’s death, she heard Asis and Buaron arguing over the daily double operations because the victim was the Small Town Lottery (STL) supervisor in the first district of Capiz.
Other witnesses who testified against Buaron were Marwin Parreno of Dumarao, Capiz and Juvy Agusan of Brgy. Dinginan here.
Parreno testified that he heard over their conversion with Buaron in their house that he (Buaron) will kill Asis.
Agusan testified that he also heard Bacus during a meeting at Brgy. Dinginan that he (Bacus) will kill Asis.
In her comment, Jocelyn said she cannot stop Buaron from filing countercharges against her.
She said she has a lawyer who will defend her, adding that it was natural to implicate a person to the case if there were witnesses to testify.
“Wala ta mahimo kun ma-counter charges siya. Ipasa-Diyos ko na lang ina. Ako pa ang namatyan ako pa ang maagrabyado kag mabayad,” she said.
