A 19-YEAR-OLD lad appeared remorseful after staging a hold-up against a taxi driver early morning of August 27, 2018 in Molo, Iloilo City.
John Michael Placido of Barangay Pandan, Leon, Iloilo, is a newly-hired waiter at a restaurant in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
Placido reported that two days prior to the incident, he met a certain Jan-Jan, a resident of Antique province and cook of a nearby restaurant.
Placido said Jan-Jan planned the robbery plan, adding that he was drunk when he joined the heist.
After their duty hours, the two went binge drinking at a store in Barangay Bolilao, Mandurriao district.
Jan-Jan later told Placido that they would proceed to his aunt’s house in Barangay Calumpang, Molo district.
Jan-Jan flagged down a Light of Glory taxi at B. Aquino Avenue in Mandurriao.
At around 4 a.m. of Monday, the duo reached Juntado Street in Molo. Placido said Jan-Jan handed him a knife.
As he drew the knife, Placido said that the taxi driver named Richie Pacura, 38, of Zone 2, Calumpang, Molo, quickly parried the attack.
“The knife fell from my hand. I just held on to the driver’s leg,” Placido said.
He added that Jan-Jan allegedly picked the knife and stabbed the driver.
Pacura sustained wounds on his palm and leg. He managed to escape and was brought to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the suspects immediately fled on foot.
Placido reported that he tried to hide in a fishpond but he was caught.
While in detention, Placido initially refused to inform his family of what happened as he might end up “dead”.
The duo is facing charges for robbery with frustrated homicide.
