ROXAS City, Capiz – Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) member Roberto Ignacio clarified his objections to the drug buy-bust operation conducted by the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) of the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO), Wednesday evening in Barangay Tanza here.
Ignacio said the PDEU did not coordinate with the village officials of Tanza led by his wife, Punong Barangay Linda Ignacio, before the operation was conducted against Reynaldo Aringo, 56, of Punta Tabuc.
Aringo is a cockfighting bet-taker.
“I am merely asking the proper procedures in conducting buy bust operations,” he stressed, adding that it is not proper to affix the signatures of the village officials on the inventory list without witnessing the operation and the illegal items recovered from the suspect.
Ignacio also questioned the way PDEU operatives arrested Aringo, who allegedly yielded three sachets of suspected shabu and the P1,000 marked money.
He also asked why the operatives led by Chief Inspector. Hilbert Gervero mounted the buy-bust operation outside the cockpit and not at suspect’s house.
Ignacio added that he never protected proliferation of illegal drugs and he never knew Aringo, the subject of the buy-bust operation.
Despite the explanation of Gervero regarding the role of the village officials and members of the media, Ignacio ignored him and told his wife not to sign the inventory of the raid.
Ignacio’s wife followed what he said.
He also listed the names of PDEU members as he contemplates to report the incident to the higher PNP command.
Meanwhile, Aringo is presently detained at the Roxas City police station and was be charged for violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
