Whatever goals you are working on right now, you have to work at them every day. It’s not enough just to write out your goals and visions for the future; you have to work hard to get anything in life.
For the 19-year old Ilonggo Club DJ and music producer, Ian Caram, all his life he dreamed about being a big room house DJ and music producer. He worked so hard to achieve his dreams and goals. “I just followed my dream and worked for it. Work hard and take it one step at a time.”
Just like Ian, work hard and dream big. You just have to go out there and make it happen for yourself.
CHASE THAT DREAM
Ian vividly remembers being 14 years old and wanting to be a big room house DJ – to be the next Hardwell. He fell in love with playing big room house, techno, hip hop, tech house, trap, progressive house, and trance music to nightclubs, bars, and festivals and he was incredibly determined to make it. “I’ve always had a passion for music since I was young. I started playing music in bars, nightclubs, and parties back when I was 14 years old and started producing my own music when I was 16 years old. I’ve always been a Hardwell fan ever since and of course of my uncle, Elmer Dado, the Philippines’ number one DJ.”
However old you are, you have to chase that dream down until it’s yours. Dreams don’t come when you’re just sitting around waiting for them to happen. It’s never perfect and it may never be just how you imagined. But you have to do what makes you happy.
Just like Ian, stop putting off an important dream. Do what you can to achieve it. Life is short, so you have to do what you love. There’s no time to waste.
EMBRACE YOUR DREAMS
Don’t waste another second not doing what you love. Your dreams are yours for a reason so run after them fearlessly with open arms. For Ian, no dream is too big for you. The world is yours for the taking. “To be honest, all you really need is a passion and if you can dream it, you can do it.”
For Ian, everything he has achieved in life came to him because he knew what he wanted and went for it wholeheartedly. In the same way, having big dreams used to scare him, but once he started achieving them he started embracing them, and that’s when they started embracing him.
So dream big or go home. As far as we know we are here only once, so release your fear and embrace your dreams.
It’s not enough to just love doing something if you want to be good at it. You have to practice every day. That’s why, before Ian performs or go on a gig, he has to practice playing his music. If he just shows up on the day unprepared, he won’t fulfill the high expectation that he has for himself. “I think that the most important skill on being a DJ is to learn on how to read the crowd and know your equipment,” he shares.
Just like Ian, take time out of your life so as to practice your passion. Do whatever you need to do that will propel you toward your goals.
