JASPER Ruby Vijar, 21, of Zarraga, Iloilo, is one of the founders of Team Dugong Bughaw, an organization that promotes human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) awareness, aims to make the Philippines a healthier place.
Dreaming of becoming a doctor, he earned his degree in Bachelor of Science in Public Health at the University of the Philippines Visayas, and eventually passed the medical technology licensure examination.
In February 2017, the organization he and his friends founded won the Ten Accomplished Youth Organization of the Philippines (TAYO 14) award. Their research paper was even presented in Vietnam and Harvard University in the USA.
He afterward represented the Philippines along with 26 Filipino youth ambassadors all over the country to the Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP 44).
Brimming with optimism and perseverance, he plans to enroll in medical school in order to realize his dream.
“I just want to tell the world that you and I are the only ones who could help each other. If you have expertise in your own fields make sure to ripple what you learn to others and even the younger generations to make this place a better place.”
